It was a gorgeous sunny day in Maryland. The racers started
arriving from all over the East Coast, with many of the out of town
visitors already there, arriving the previous evening. We had
representatives form VASCRA, ECHORR, VHORS and the MAHOR t-jet
groups. Eight states were represented at this event: MD, PA, NJ,
West Virginia, VA, Kansas, NY and Missouri. Steve Ward form KC was a
surprise guest and nobody knew he was in the house until he walked
into the race room on Saturday morning. The tent was set up, the
moon bounce for the kids arrived and the racers kept coming! In
total we had 28 adult racers and 9 junior racers for a total of 37
total racers!
Steve Ward, as always, held t-jet court all morning, getting every
car he touched to go faster, unreal!! The Rabbit Racing boys of
magnet car racing were in the house for a t-jet experience and they
added their flavor to the mix. Thornbury Court Raceway welcomed
first time visitors: Joe Rinn, Kevin McEvoy, John Bamonte, Tom
Ficari and his family, Kevin Chesney and his family, Dennis (Capt
Pitstop) Moore, Swamper Gene, Bill and Jimmy.
We started the racing @11:30 AM with a Junior's IROC race on the Six
Pack, 4 lane color coded VHORS SS cars with slip on tire Dodge
Chargers were set up for the event. The cars were set up with
handling and were very forgiving, even for first time drivers. Each
Junior ran all four designated lanes for 2 minutes.

After a short lunch break we had a driver's meeting for the Feature
race, VHORS SS/FRAY setups on the Bowman track. It was decided that
we run 5 lap qualifiers and seed the mains from there, rather than
run qualifying heats and then the mains.

After qualifying we seeded the racers into 9 mains, the top three
qualifiers were automatically seeded in the "A" main. The fourth
spot was up for grabs, the first place finisher of each main moved
up the ladder till the fourth spot in the "A" was determined. There
was some really close and great racing in all the mains. Kevin
McEvoy put on quite a show moving up 3 times and Dennis Moore move
up twice, great racing guys! Once we got to the "C" main things
really started to get intense, with all the racers going for that
move up, close racing, lots of door banging and tons of fun! Derek
S. out ran his father Chuck S. by sections to take the final spot in
the "A" main and a threat from his father that he would be walking
home!! Congratulations to Derek on making his first "A" main at an
ECHORR race. Now the 2 minute qualifiers were over and it was on to
the 3 minute segment "A" Main. Talk about intense; I think I lost 5
pounds from the sweat pouring down my face. Mike B. and Steve Ward
set the pace in the first heat with 21's, I managed a 22 in the 2nd
segment to tighten things up, Steve Ward and I pulled 21's in the
third segment and I went into the 4th segment up by a lap and a
half, Steve Ward was relentless and made up that half lap in no
time and was gaining on me lap after lap, 15 seconds left I was
about 6 inches ahead of Steve and he got tangled up with Mike on the
last turn and when the power went off I squeaked it out by 4
sections, 18 inches after 12 minutes of racing, WOW!!
