ECHORR 4th Anniversary race

The festivities were scheduled to start on Saturday morning, but racers from the Midwest and other states started
trickling in on Thursday. We started setting up the tracks and the back yard on Friday and by Friday evening we
had 25 guys in the basement jonesing for a race. We decided to run a FRAY / VHORSS race on the Bowman track.
There were some fast machines out there. John Habernal was bored during the day, so I gave him some parts and
he built me the winner for the night! Awesome job Habby! The “East Coast Fast” guys: Paul Kniffen and I finished 1st
and 2nd…hmmm…

Saturday morning racers started pouring into the basement and garage. We had racers from NY, NJ, Delaware, PA, NC,
VA, KS, MO and Maryland show up for the club’s 4th year anniversary. Some big names in T-jet racing came in, like Henry
Harnish, Paul Kniffen, Don Bourne, Clint Bourne, John Habernal and Dave Lockwood just to mention a few. We started the
day off with a random team drawing, with random Captains and Co-Captains assigned to each team.   Most teams wound
up with at least 5 guys on a team and there were a total of 8 teams to race on 4 tracks set up in the basement and garage.
(41 adult racers total) All teams got aquatinted and had an open practice on all tracks but the Tub track, which was reserved
for the Kid’s race. The kid’s race was awesome, 5 kids under age 13 competed in an IROC race on the Tub track and the
racing was so close that the difference between 4th and 5th place was ¼ inch!

Kids Race results:

Matthew-60
Joe – 56
Ben – 56
Cricket – 52
Ryan – 52

Awesome driving by these juniors!

The random team drawing format proved to be successful and fun once again, There were 8 ties during the day, every
team had at least one win and only one team had zero losses, but they had 2 ties…doesn’t get any closer than that.

The teams were as follows:

As you can see there was some close racing, most losses were a matter of a couple of points. After the team race we
went outside for some food, crabs, BBQ, rice dishes, you name it! Not to mention the adult beverages.. :-). The awards
were handed out to the Kids first then the Team race winners. After a bit of repose we started giving out the sponsor
prizes, this lasted well over an hour and was crowned with a gift certificate from whodatslotbox for $100 off a wood
HO box that John V won,  A special deluxe DBL controller that Bill Trotter won and an all out KC Jet with RT gears,
Zoomin Front end etc., that Brian Bright won. Please see the list of sponsors and support them…they keep us all going
in this great hobby.
The festivities lasted well into the night as friends and neighbors joined us, the Moon bounce filled up with kids of all
ages and everyone enjoyed each other’s company.

Sunday morning came very quickly and about 26 racers were still standing. We ran an IROC race with FRAY cars featuring
slip-on tires and Zoomin Celica bodies. These cars are a blast and fun to drive. We ran 2 minute qualifiers then mains with
unlimited bump ups.
Again, some close racing throughout the mains.

IROC Results:

Clint
Hiram
Paul K.
Chuck S.

The “KC fast” guy prevailed in this one. Great job Clint, held on to win by 6 feet or so.

The local newspaper covered the event and put in a plug for the Challenge in October, this thanks to Randy Panos.
All in all it was a great weekend of racing, bounding and learning from the t-jet gurus from KC. Special thanks to Don
Bourne and Habby for wrenching and teaching, Tracy ,Dave and Clint for helping run the races and doing physical labor
throughout the weekend. Thanks to Derek Shaeffer for helping in the collection of names and raffle tickets and Joe Rinn
for helping me with the sponsor prizes and keeping me in check when I forgot something. And of course Janet for putting
all the outside activities and food together.
