Henry's Labor Day Blast 2018
Randolph NJ
Hello Race Fans,
Labor Day weekend was a great weekend for racing which began with the Mike Pisano Classic hosted by Joe Corea at NJ Nostalgia Hobby (see separate race report) and then 2 days at Randolph Speedway.
As the unofficial end of summer comes to a close, HO slot car racers look forward to Henry Harnish’s Labor Day Blast. 2018 marked the 14th year for this event and it is usually one of the best attended races of the year. For the first time this race was streamed live via Facebook, thanks to Dave Kosch of Fast Lane Racing Products. I hope those who could not attend were able to enjoy it.
The Champ opened his doors at noon on Saturday for practice. Practice was well attended with racers from as far away as Texas getting much needed track time and tuning time. Lap times continued to drop all afternoon. At five it was time for the first trip to the Randolph Diner for dinner.
Of course, we met back there for Sunday breakfast.
Sunday’s race featured some frequent racers attending the Blast for the first time. Thirty three racers from NJ, NY, MD, PA and TX showed up to test there skills on the fast Randolph Speedway and the classic Aurora Tub Track. Aurora did configure a challenging track that has withstood the test of time. There is nothing like racing on a tub.
With that size crowd it made sense to split into 2 groups and run the races concurrently.
As usual, it was close racing and lot of fun.
